I'm Running The Accenture Chicago Triathlon

I've decided that I don't have enough physical pain in my life and so I've decided to run the Accenture Chicago Triathlon on August 26th. I'm also doing this for the American Cancer Society in memory of my Aunt Patricia and my mom's Aunt Katie. Please donate on my behalf by clicking on this link (ACS). Even something like $10 is helpful. So far, i'm halfway to my goal of $1,000.

Making Amends

I've been pretty lax lately when it comes to contributing to this blog, but I've decided that I'm going to attempt to try and keep this as up-to-date as possible. It's a little daunting when you know you have a readership of 1...or maybe 2 on a good day, but I really do want to try and keep this blog current.

I recently went home to LA and had a really nice weekend doing yard work with my mom and hanging out with Marina and my friends. It actually made me feel really homesick. The highlight was probably hanging out in the back yard and doing some odds-and-ends that were a little to strenuous for my mom. It's just too bad I wasn't around long enough to enjoy all the work and hang out on the back patio having a beer with my mom.

Anyway, it looks like the summer is going to be pretty busy. I've updated my calendar with the things I remember, but I'm sure I've missed some and that others will be added.

I'm going to get some work done, but I'll be back soon to add more.

I'm a proud lesbian?

"...Subaru has been the most prominent company to embrace the gay market. As long ago as 2000, the automaker created advertising campaigns around Martina Navratilova, the gay tennis star, and also used a sales slogan that was a subtle gay-rights message: 'It’s not a choice. It’s the way we’re built.' Little wonder that many lesbians refer to their Outbacks as 'Lesbarus.'..."

It was all fun and games when my old boss asked if our Subaru was painted plaid, but it takes on a whole new meaning when the make of your car is profiled as a lesbian car in the New York Times.

Dubya Countdown Clock

I couldn't add the actual countdown clock to my blog, but I've attached the link for the site here (www.backwardsbush.com) . You can add it to your desktop or you can buy one. I'm going to have a party when it goes down to zero. If he's impeached, which he won't be, this could speed up quite a bit.

A couple things...

So, it's been a few days since I last wrote anything. Superficially, it's because I haven't found anything that really piqued my interest, but mostly I think it's because I'm also still trying to figure out exactly what this blog should be about. I think I'd like for it to be a web-diary/log thing, but then again I worry that I'll say something about my job or about my extended family and get in trouble. Would it really be worth it?

Anyway, the weather here is shitty (sorry kids, it really is) and I'm going crazy! I actually looked out the window on the EL and thought it was nice how the snow was falling on the 18-wheeler crawling through traffic...as it passed my train. Something is terribly wrong with this situation.

I've also decided that I'm going to take the GMAT. I'm not exactly sure what the end-game is, but I think it involves earning 100k and not hating what I'm doing. I could be wrong, but my hope is for the best.

Finally, to finish all this up, on the train I also started thinking about all the things I'd like to do/learn. I don't know how the hell I'm ever going to get around to doing them all, but this is the list (not a ranking and not an exhaustive list).

  • Take sailing lessons
  • Take golf lessons
  • Learn to play an instrument (guitar, piano, saxophone, etc.)
  • Publish a freelance travel article
  • Get in shape
  • Study for the GMAT
  • Take the GMAT
  • Write a short story
  • Take the Foreign Service Exam

Not dirt cheap...

The Tribune Company which owns the Chicago cubs was sold this week to Sam Zell (a billionaire Chicago real estate magnate). The Cubs will remain with the Tribune Company until the end of the season at which point they will be sold to the highest bidder...unless the highest bidder is Mark Cuban. That said, the cubs apparently are already up on eBay for a whopping $650,000,000. I tried to find the actual posting to include and link here, but it looks like it was already taken down. So, I've included a link to the article on ESPN.com that discusses the posting. If you roll-over the big flashing dots on the article on ESPN.com, you can read some of the hilarious comments the seller included. Check it out by clicking here.
